The Council of Vas county decided 1980 to finance the construction of a high-quality organ, matching the dimensions of and thus increasing the value and importance of the Bartók-Hall. The organ with two manuals, 23 ranks and a total of 1.614 pipes was constructed 1980 by the Jehmlich Orgelbau Dresden Ltd. over a period of six months. During construction works concerts were held at different locations in the town of Szombathely. The fact that the construction works began in summer and many ready-made parts were brought form Dresden, were a blessing in disguise. Gábor Lehotka inaugurated the imposing organ with beautiful sound during the traditional Christmas concert on 21st December 1980.
